What happened with Backyard on Bell? The Ugly God show and the double bookings

The extent of what we could find about the Ugly God event

It seems as if we’ve struck a nerve with Denton bar/venue, Backyard on Bell, with our post last night about their event, simply echoing all the rumblings and complaints we’ve heard from people in Denton about the venue. So we’ll clear up a few things.

UGLY GOD EVENT

We went back to search for tweets made by Ugly God on September 30, after it was announced that he wouldn’t be playing the show. Apparently, he had tweeted the day of the show that he cancelled the Denton event weeks prior, after getting droves of upset fans tweeting at him, and didn’t tell his fans because he felt it wasn’t his responsibility. That lead to him ranting on about the matter, and upon searching, it’s evident he deleted the tweets. That’s a big win for BYOB’s credibility, who claim that Ugly God's management didn't give them any notice, and based on his tweets being deleted, we’re willing to admit we’re wrong for accusing the venue of anything sinister, like falsifying the event.

DOUBLE BOOKING

The reports that we heard about the venue double booking all lead to a show that was supposed to be held there on October 26th, featuring touring act Ferbus, from LA, and Weak Knees, from OKC. What we had heard was that the event was actually triple-booked, and although we can’t prove that it was triple-booked, which would be a massive oversight, it was double-booked and Ferbus and Weak Knees was moved to Midway Craft House the day of the show. Is this the end-all for the venue? Of course not.

As a business, you’re certainly allowed your nine lives, or three strikes, if you will, and Backyard on Bell is no different. They’re going further than most bars are willing to go in Denton by doubling as a place for bands to play shows, which is why we mentioned them in the first place, and we don’t expect them to go anywhere anytime soon. That doesn’t mean they’re immune from criticisms, just like how we aren’t, either. But, it seems as if they'd rather be left out of the blogosphere, protecting themselves from any insight of what any outsiders might say, so we’ll try our best to not give them a mention in our blog anymore.
