SSTD - Tape Two - Album Review

Cover art for SSTD's latest release

SSTD, which we're unsure is a reference to a torpedo or not, brings us a tape recorded at Cool Devices, a studio built by members of The Marked Men. As far as sound quality goes, Cool Devices' all-analog recordings seem to be hit or miss. This album lacks the impact and volume that Kira Jari's album carries, which was recorded in the same studio (Possibly a mastering issue? Or an older recording?), but sound quality is something we can always look past provided there is substance, which we're afraid this album lacks. Featuring members of Slimey Member, this band brings with it a punk sound that has been around for so long already, it rivals the longevity of the dangling earring. How many more early-80's GBH and The Exploited type songs can one possibly bear in their life without becoming bored? SSTD looks to find the answer. True, they may be better as a live act, but if only that's what we were talking about today.
