J&J's Pizza announces it will start booking shows in its basement again

2016 was a rough year for the music scene in Denton, Texas, losing 3 of its most prized possessions: Hailey's, Rubber Gloves, and J&J's Pizza. As one would expect, 2017 saw a massive fallout as the search for a proper venue began to really sink into everyone's minds. The spirit of Denton persevered with other house venues, such as the Lion's Den, the Shed, and Rick's Dungeon, and newer venues such as Midway Craft House and Denton County Brewing Company, but the ghost of J&J's became all the more taunting, seeing as how the restaurant, located right on the square, never actually closed- they just stopped having shows in the basement.

There's almost no point in trying to explain the history of the basement, as that would take far too long, but if you ask anyone in Denton the significance of the venue, you're certain to hear a wide spectrum of beloved memories, differing from person to person. The announcement of a return of a venue with this caliber is equivalent to having a family member being sentenced to prison, only to hear they will be released early due to a mistake in the trial. The shockwaves have already lead to almost 550 likes on the Facebook announcement as of the time of the article, and 77 comments.

Now, just like that, we're 21 hours into the announcement and already hearing a huge handful of shows being hosted here, the biggest being the Razorbumps record release show in January (link below the article), with the massively popular band Wiccans, from Austin, and formerly of Denton, coming up for support. There's plenty of other shows that's we're keeping our eye on, and will make sure you know about, but now the question seems to be will the demand be so high and competitive, that not everybody will be able to play? We're thinking, based on the history on the venue, that it will make sure to find a way to give a helping hand to everyone who needs it.
