Annex/Perdidos/Aztec Death/Estado Fascista (Casa de Locos)

Casa de Locos is one of the newer venues to appear here in the DFW area, and the Oak Cliff residency is making a pretty good name for itself already. There's usually always something going on here on a weekly basis, whether it be a punk rock show, or a benefit for an unfortunate soul who has been detained by ICE (link to that event on Sunday: https://www.facebook.com/events/280941969095456/). Tonight, they're bringing in Annex from San Antonio, and stacking the bill pretty high with some of the more unique punk acts from the area. Perdidos, from Dallas, are coming off a great record released earlier this year in April, giving the public an album in Spanish that's a lot darker and authentic than your average punk rock band, while still maintaining a fast-paced classic punk feel. Aztec Death, dives even deeper into the abyss, with a self-proclaimed post-punk sound that really just walks the line of 80's goth and deathrock. Estado Fascista wraps up the bill with songs so short, you might miss it if you blink. Shows here apparently need to be over by 11:30, but have been known to go well past the midnight hour. Show is $5.

Stop Motion Orchestra/Sexual Jeremy/Quartet Fandatan/Goalie (The Mustard Zone)

Denton has always had an wonderful experimental alter-ego that has been right under everyone's noses, but seems to always get overlooked. It's had many faces, but today, the baton seems to currently be in the hands of kingpins Rick Eye and Cody Cantu, who have had a host of shows centered around the conveniently named "Rick's Dungeon." Tonight is a continuation of that series, this time at venue unfamiliar to us, The Mustard Zone. Stop Motion Orchestra visits from Austin, TX.

Saturday

Nothing/Ceremony/True Widow/Razorbumps (Club Dada)

Fun Button/Glaze/Rei Clone/Teenage Sexx (Backyard on Bell)
https://www.facebook.com/events/1740281169614034/
If we were to take a poll right now for this scene's least favorite venue, we're thinking Backyard on Bell would rank at least top 3, possibly even number one. Not only do you have to sit next to dozens of UNT freshmen who have never been to a show before, or even care to, but the show takes place onstage outside, where sound is at it's worst, given that the venue hasn't double booked and the show is still allowed to go on. We've gotten multiple reports of BoB double booking events, and even one instance of falsifying an event (Ugly God), we're wondering what makes musicians want to continue to come back to a venue that seemingly has no passion. Then, we look around at the slim pickings Denton has to offer and it all makes sense. It's times like these that really make you miss Rubber Gloves.
